The most patriotic time of year is quickly approaching, bringing with it picnics, barbeques, and backyard parties all across America. Fourth of July conjures up thoughts of hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad and watermelon. This Independence day, why not get a little creative with your patriotic fare?
If you find yourself the host of the next Fourth of July get together, try one or all of these ideas to make your party stand out in the most patriotic of ways.
The Wave Your Flag Cake
The perfect patriotic end to a Fourth of July meal.
4 cups divided strawberries
1 1/2 cups of boiling water
2 packages of Jello (red)
1 cup cold water
1 package of prepared pound cake cut into 10 slices
1 1/3 cups of divided blueberries
1 tub of Cool Whip topping.
Slice strawberries. Prepare Jello. Cover 13×9 pan with cake slices. Add strawberries and a cup of blueberries to your Jello and stir in. Spread the Jello and fruit mix over your cake and set in fridge for four hours. Before serving, spread whipped topping on top and make a flag pattern with the strawberries and blueberries.
Stars and Stripes Donut Shortcake
Serve these up for a patriotic breakfast or for an Independence Day dessert.
1/3 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch
2 tablespoons of water
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
2 cups of fresh blueberries
6 plain cake donuts cut through the middle
3-4 cups of assorted fresh berries
Stir sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan with water and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Let cool. Place donut halves on medium heat for about 3 minutes. Once browned, remove and serve with your sauce and fresh berries.
Strawberries bedazzled with marshmallow creme and patriotic blue pop rocks.
3 cups of strawberries
4 cups of vodka
1 1/2 cup of marshmallow creme
1 cup of blue Pop Rocks candy
Place strawberries in a bowl and cover with vodka. Place them in the fridge for an hour. Remove from fridge and drain vodka. Dry the strawberries with a paper towel. Microwave marshmallow for 10 seconds, dip strawberries in marshmallow, and then into bowl of Pop Rocks.
Lemonade Iced Tea
What’s more patriotic than Lemonade or Iced Tea? Well, the combination of the two of course! Lemonade Iced Tea just seems like a natural combination with the sweet citrus kick to a traditional refreshing iced tea. Turn it into an adult beverage by adding a splash of dark rum or bourbon, too.
Star Spangled Burgers
Give traditional burgers a patriotic kick with red peppers and blue cheese.
2 pounds of ground beef
1 large diced red bell pepper
2 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 (4 oz) packages crumbled blue cheese
Combine beef, red pepper, garlic, salt and pepper into a mixing bowl and form 16 patties. Put an ounce of blue cheese in the center on top of 8 of the patties. Take another patty and put it on top of the patty you just put your cheese on. Grill and serve.
